WHO WE ARE

Trois Crayons expands and connects the global drawings community. Through the annual Drawings Hub exhibition, specialist editorial magazine and inclusive programming, we are working to increase the awareness, accessibility and visibility of the art of drawing from the 15th to 21st century.

The name, Trois Crayons, is derived from the French term meaning “three crayons”, a drawing technique which utilises black, white and red chalks that rose to prominence in mid-18th century France for its particular aesthetic appeal when the chalks were used in combination.

Founded by Alesa Boyle, Tom Nevile and Sebastien Paraskevas Trois Crayons champions the primacy of drawing and simplifies access for the digital generation to all the disparate elements that make up today’s world of drawing. Trois Crayons is a venture from Mariette & Co., the company likewise behind Studiolo.

THE TROIS CRAYONS MODEL

Trois Crayons endeavours to refresh the market for drawings through our annual Drawings Hub, a group selling exhibition which brings together and celebrates master works on paper across regions and centuries.

We have made it our mission to demystify acquiring drawings by the world’s best artists from renowned galleries and dealers by creating an environment in which buying drawings and works on paper is a pleasurable and straightforward experience, equally enjoyable for established collectors, new collectors and interested visitors alike.

Breaking from tradition, the Trois Crayons Drawings Hub includes no gallery booths, instead all artworks are thoughtfully curated by the Trois Crayons team to create an exhibition of the highest standard. A further deviation from the norm, the Trois Crayons model allows participants the ability to exhibit without the need to be physically present as the dedicated and knowledgeable Trois Crayons team is always on hand to assist visitors and buyers.

Recent exhibitors include W.M. Brady & Co., Ambroise Duchemin, Galerie Eric Coatalem, Colnaghi Elliott Master Drawings, Enrico Frascione Antiquario, Stephen Ongpin Fine Art, Rosenberg & Co., Nicolas Schwed, John Swarbrooke Fine Art, Nicholaas Teeuwisse OHG and Wildenstein & Co. Inc.

We have curated exhibitions showcasing exceptional works on paper over five centuries, from Old Masers to the present day, including works by such artists as Jean-Antoine Watteau, Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo, J.M.W. Turner, Auguste Rodin, Gustav Klimt, Henri Matisse, Gwen John, Pablo Picasso, Françoise Gilot, Andy Warhol and Jenny Saville, among many others.

Our free public talks and events which accompany each edition of the Drawings Hub have included collaborations with institutions such as the British Museum, The Courtauld, Sotheby’s, Christie’s and the Ashmolean Museum, supported by partners including The Burlington Magazine, The Drawing Foundation and Arcarta.
